Coaching FAQ
What should I expect during the initial consultation?
During this conversation, we’ll get to know each other. I’m interested to learn what opportunities and challenges you’re experiencing now or looking forward to, and how you believe a coach can support you. And don’t worry – if you’re not sure about what you want from coaching, we can figure that out together! I’ll share my approach to coaching and what you can expect from me as your coach, and I’ll answer your questions about me and about coaching.
Do you offer one-time coaching sessions or on-going support?
Coaching is a journey of discovery, reflection and learning. The vast majority of the time, my clients and I work together 3 to 6 months. However, I have worked with a client for a single session to navigate a very specific challenge or opportunity.
How much do your services cost?
Discovery sessions are always free. Coaching engagement costs are generally presented as a packaged engagement with its specific included services. I do offer options for payment.
How do you communicate throughout the coaching engagement?
Coaching sessions can be conducted in-person (where practical), via teleconference, by telephone (domestic calls only), or a combination of modalities. Between scheduled coaching sessions, clients can reach me via email and text as needed.
Parliamentary Services FAQ
What should I expect during the initial consultation?
During the initial consultation, we’ll get to know each other. I am interested in learning what challenges you or your organization is experiencing and how you believe a parliamentarian can help you. If you’re not sure about what you want from a parliamentarian, we can figure that out together! I’ll share my approach to parliamentary consulting and what you can expect from me as your parliamentarian, and I’ll answer any questions that you may have about me and about parliamentary procedure.
Do you offer one-time consulting sessions or on-going support?
Depending on your unique needs, our parliamentary services may be one time (e.g. topical workshop, parliamentary opinion) or on-going (e.g. serving as monthly meeting parliamentarian or presiding officer). In our initial consultation, we will work together to determine what your needs are and how we can best address them to your satisfaction.
How much do your services cost?
Discovery sessions are always free. Consulting engagement costs are generally presented as a packaged engagement with its specific included services. We do offer options for payment.
How do you communicate throughout the consultation process?
Depending on the type of engagement agreed upon, sessions can be conducted in-person (where practical), via teleconference, by telephone (domestic calls only), or a combination of modalities. Between scheduled sessions (where applicable), clients can reach me via email and text as needed.
If parliamentarians deal with parliamentary law, does that mean that they can provide legal advice?
No. Though there are some parliamentarians who are also lawyers, most parliamentarians are not, and only lawyers can provide you with legal advice. By the same token, most lawyers would not claim to have expertise in parliamentary procedure or rules of order. Consulting a professional registered parliamentarian will ensure that you are getting the best possible advice and instruction in parliamentary procedure.
Can we appoint one of our members to be the parliamentarian?
Yes, you can. However, there are potential drawbacks, and sometimes problems with using a member parliamentarian. Engaging a professional registered parliamentarian will allow you and your membership to have an unbiased opinion and assistance, while avoiding potential conflicts of interest.
What is a professional registered parliamentarian (PRP)?
A professional registered parliamentarian (PRP) is a person who has gone through a rigorous examination process conducted by the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) leading to one or more credentials, requiring continuous education and professional development to maintain those credentials.
